Bonny Slope is always some place in the IB assessment cycle. Right now we are involved in a self study. The International Baccalaureate requires we stay up to date an in tune with the IB standards and have set up systems to help us do so. Currently we are preparing for a spring 2018 visit from IB. In preparation, we look closely at the IB Standards and assess ourselves. How are we doing? Are there areas we could improve?
There are several standards that International Baccalaureate require falling under the following three sub headings.
Standard A: Philosophy
Standard B: Organization
Standard C: Curriculum
The first step in a Self Assessment is to get a pulse from the staff and community. We are currently sending surveys to stakeholders and the PYP committee analyzes at the information shared. We will be surveying and reviewing the feedback shared until Spring Break.
Recently the community was part of a discussion on Philosophy at the BSCO gathering on January 25th. We reviewed the IB mission statement and the Bonny Slope Mission statement.
IB
The International Baccalaureate® aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
Bonny Slope:
Dedicated to excellence by empowering our students with skills and attitudes to be lifelong learners and global thinkers; we are culturally sensitive and take action to create a better, more peaceful world.
What those statements mean to us as a community was discussed. In light of the current political climate, our guiding statements have never felt more relevant.
A survey will be made available in the March Paw Prints for parents to share their thinking about the curriculum at Bonny Slope. We look forward to hearing thoughts from the community about the teaching and learning and Bonny Slope.
