This year Bonny Slope staff has a unique dilemma: we have parent funded PYP professional development resources, but no teacher work days to use those funds. This problem has been solved and great learning and planning is taking place in collaboration time! It just so happens, one of our own staff members, Tonia Anderson, our .5 ELL teacher, has a passion for science! In fact, she works on a district science cadre to promote Next Generation Science Standards. When I went searching for a science “guru” to bring into our collaboration time for teachers, my quest took me right down the hall! Who knew, Tonia has been trained through three year MSPNGSS grant for science teachers? She and her team recently went to the National Science Conference. Tonia also had PYP inquiry through science training this past fall. When asked what she loves about the current work she is doing, she replied, "I get to teach science, of coarse!" "Not only is it the coolest thing ever, it ties into everything, especially language. It is the best pathway for learning because of student engagement!"
